"Boosco" was created in 2016, on the occasion of the celebration of Don Bosco's birthday, in a joint project between the Social Communication and Youth Ministry teams of the Salesian Congregation in Chile. It was born as a response to a long-standing concern: the large capital of pastoral resources did not have a space capable of collecting, validating, and distributing them in digital environments.
The portal has managed to collect these materials and contents, distributing them even beyond the geographical borders of Chile and managing to reach even environments outside the Salesian Congregation.
"Boosco" successfully fits into a digital and globalized context, which requires an opening of knowledge beyond physical barriers. Among its services, the site offers the biblical text and a reflection of the Gospel of the day, a lectio divina of the Sunday Gospel, a daily reflection for the closing of the day called "Good night", and over a thousand inputs to help in the development of youth activities, formation and other liturgical moments.
The fifth anniversary of “Boosco” comes at a time of international success for the platform. In fact, in 2020, the total number of views on the site reached 2,136,686: an increase of 193% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of new users who visited the site was 1,318,904, up 181% from 2019.
The countries where the pastoral web search engine is most used are Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Peru and the United States, which represent more than 50% of total visits. In 2020, only 5.73% of users were Chilean, showing that it is a well-established platform beyond its borders.
Some "Boosco" files have exceeded 1,000 global downloads, which strengthens the search engine for its content and usefulness. The platform proves to be a practical support for the dissemination of quality material, even in times like these today, marked by the Covid-19 pandemic.
