India - New methods of mechanized cultivation
Panjim, India - July 2021 - On July 8, Fr George Quadros, a Salesian from the India-Panjim Province (INP), broke his own personal record in the field of agriculture, planting paddy seedlings in over 115,000 square meters in just twelve hours. The planting took place in a field in the village of Curtorim Maina, in southern Goa, thanks to the use of innovative machinery that allows mechanized cultivation. His project, which allows abandoned land to be cultivated and revived, began five years ago, when Fr Quadros managed to convince several farmers to participate in a community agriculture initiative. Today more and more farmers are using mechanized transplanting and thanks to this method more and more uncultivated lands are returning to bear fruit.
