15 November 2022

(ANS – Marsa) – On Thursday 10th November 2022, the first plenary meeting of the Consultative Forum of the European Union Asylum Agency (EUAA) took place in Malta, in which "Don Bosco International", the body that represents the Salesian Congregation within the institutions of the European Union (EU), participated as a member.

After 10 years of operation, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) was recently transformed into the EUAA. Among different services, the Agency offers operational and technical support to increase efficiency in asylum systems; better monitor and report on the functioning of national asylum and reception systems; support EU+ countries with resettlement schemes.

During her opening speech, Ms Nina Gregori, Executive Director EUAA, underlined the importance of a transparent and collaborative dialogue between the Agency and the civil society organisations. An update about the EUAA’s activities, training tools, reports and data analysis was presented by Ms Tsvetelina Kumanova, Ms Rachelle Cortis, and Mr Bernhard Chiari.

The afternoon session provided a first opportunity to collect ideas and inputs from all the Consultative Forum members concerning the Forum’s working methods and decision-making process.

Dr Sarah Adeyinka was elected as the Consultative Forum Chairperson ad interim.

Together with Don Bosco 2000 and VIS, Don Bosco International had the opportunity to share Salesian values and good practices, strengthening DBI’s network and building new contacts among organisations focused on asylum and migration at national and European level.

Sara Sechi,

Executive Secretary of Don Bosco International
