(ANS – Venice) – The national Cinecircoli Giovanili Sociocultural" (CGS) association, active since 1967 and promoted in Italy by the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, has renewed its presence at the Venice Lido for the 80th edition of the International Film Festival (30 August – 9 September 2023), with the work of cultural animation linked to the critical study of film language and web review promoted within the Venice Film Workshop. This is a qualifying step of the CGS national training course, reserved for cultural animators aged 18 and over and modified over the course of its forty years of existence, up to the formula today aimed mainly at young people and attentive to the dissemination of film culture via the web.

(ANS – Addis Ababa) – Welcome is the first phase of the pilot project launched in Addis Ababa by the Global Solidarity Fund, in collaboration with 5 religious congregations. Internally displaced people from the countryside and from Tigray, others repatriated from Arab countries in the Gulf, refugees, marginalised people and street children from the capital, are welcomed by the Missionaries of Charity, the Jesuit Refugee Service and the Salesians of Don Bosco, and then receive education and find work or open their own business in Ethiopia.

(ANS– Rome) – In the first consistory of the third millennium 21 February 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed two other Sons of Don Bosco as cardinals, both Latin Americans: Venezuelan Antonio Ignacio Velasco García and Honduran Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga. Today we remember the former of the two: a distinguished scholar, active in the Salesian Congregation as a Provincial and Regional Councillor, then a zealous and dynamic pastor.

(ANS – Port-au-Prince) – The animation visit carried out by the Economer General of the Salesian Congregation, Salesian Brother Jean Paul Muller, to the Blessed Philip Rinaldi Vice-Province of Haiti (HAI) has continued in recent days, despite a very difficult socio-political context.

(ANS – Hua Hin) - The Voices Project was inaugurated yesterday, on September 19, 2023 at the Hua Hin Retreat Centre, Thailand with the participation of all the Social Communication delegates and Youth representatives from around the East Asia Oceania region. The Young people shared their stories and experiences on digital addiction, substance addiction, violence, crime and oppression, and climate change, environment and indigenous peoples, either through live speeches and pre-recorded videos.

(ANS – Lviv) – The Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in its 93rd session, held on 1 and 2 February 2023 in Lviv, Ukraine, decided to reform its liturgical calendar and move from the Julian calendar in use in this Church until now, to the Gregorian calendar. And so from 1 September 2023, the date that marks the beginning of the liturgical year, the Church has switched to the new Gregorian style for immovable feasts. At the same time, the Kiev Orthodox Church also switched to following the new Julian calendar. According to this decision, from 1 September 2023, all the immovable feasts of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kiev in Ukraine will be celebrated in a new style, preserving the current Eastern way of celebrating Easter.
