(ANS - Brasilia) - The history of the city of Brasilia is closely linked to Don Bosco and the Salesians. According to tradition, on 30 August 1883 Don Bosco had a missionary dream in which he foresaw the evangelizing action of his spiritual children. Among the places where they would work, he saw Brasilia. There is no doubt that the Salesians were soon able to start an impressive service to the poor and young people most in need in Brasilia as requested by Don Bosco. And on the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the canonization of Don Bosco, the Salesians received from Brazilian Society recognition for their services.

(ANS - Lisbon) - In Europe with its national borders and nationalist claims there are some who take the first step spontaneously to meet refugees who have fled from war and poverty. This is the case in Portugal. Through its government agencies it has indicated its willingness to help the European countries most affected by migration by accepting migrants. The Salesian Family is part of the network of organizations involved in this work of humanitarian assistance.

(ANS - Bukavu) - The journalist D. Snow once called Congo "a country cursed by its wealth." "The Second Congo War, called 'the Great War of Africa', sucked in military and civilians from nine countries". In the town of Bukavu, on the shores of Lake Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Salesians have a professional school for street children and poor youth.

  • Latin America – Strengthening Vocational and Educational Commitment Today: 30 Years of the Salesian School in Latin America

(ANS) – Since the first meeting in Cumbayá (Ecuador), 30 years ago, educational processes on the continent have found a collaborative epicentre which has given rise to the Salesian School in (Latin) America  – ESA, in Spanish – as a forum for reflection and a common path. Many Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and other groups of the Salesian Family (SF) have enriched this synodal journey, focusing on young people and their integral development.  What are today's demands of us in the educational field? How are we building the Salesian School of the future? Can we further strengthen this great Salesian educational network in America? Some FMAs and Salesians who were at the first meeting in 1994, share their experience and their vision of how this journey has allowed a growth in the understanding of the youth reality, in the strategic decisions within the Provinces themselves and in the challenges that emerge for Salesian education.
