Colombia – March 2024 - During Holy Week, young people from the various presences of the Salesian Province of Colombia-Bogotá (cob) carried out the "Christ lives 2024" experience. Through moments of reflection and encounter, the young people had an experience of faith and love in Christ, and found his love alive and present in each of them. His example of love, service and forgiveness was engraved in every young heart that had this beautiful experience of faith in Christ. Each shared moment gave them the opportunity to reflect on their own life and vocation, strengthening their connection with him. "May this experience inspire us to live each day with love and service, bringing the light of Christ to every corner of the world."

Condoto, Colombia – March 2024 - The celebration of Easter was successfully held from 22 to 31 March 2024 in the San José Parish of Condoto, in the department of Chocó. It was coordinated by the Delegate for Missionary Animation of the Salesian Province of Medellín, Colombia (COM), Fr Hernán Darío Carmona, accompanied by a group of 30 missionaries including Salesians and lay people. The group was split up for pastoral accompaniment at the San José Parish and in the territorial areas of Santa Ana, Viro Viro, Soledad and La Planta. The response of the different communities was very positive and all the celebrations took place around the experience of the Passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, with boys, girls, young people and adults at the forefront in each of the celebratory moments that strengthened the experience of faith.

Medellín, Colombia – March 2024 - The Salesian Louis Bertrand Province of Medellín, Colombia (COM) is in the process of preparing for the 22nd Provincial Chapter, which was convened by the Provincial, Fr Luis Fernando Valencia, SDB. Starting from the guidelines presented by the Salesian Congregation for the celebration of the 29th General Chapter on the theme: "PASSIONATE ABOUT JESUS CHRIST, DEDICATED TO YOUNG PEOPLE. For a faithful and prophetic experience of our Salesian vocation", all the communities of the COM Province, since October 2023, have worked and reflected on the three core areas of the GC29: 1. Animation and care for the real life of each Salesian; 2. Salesians, Salesian Family and Laity together ‘With’ and ‘For’ the Young; 3. A courageous evaluation and reshaping of the Congregation's Governance at all levels. Through the reflections of the local communities, the Pre-Chapter Commission consolidated the information obtained, ensuring a coherent and representative synthesis according to the criteria established by the GC29 and structuring the contributions according to a document provided by its Moderator. The 22nd Provincial Chapter of the COM Province will take place from 6 to 9 April 2024 at illa de Sales", near Copacabana, and will involve 36 Salesians.

  • Italy – A Salesian on the front line of the war in Ukraine: "Being close counts, words come later"

(ANS - Rome) - As he tells with a gentleness that does not seem to come from horror, he is "resting a little bit" in Rome these days. Fr Oleh Ladnyuk is a Ukrainian Salesian priest who is a military chaplain at the front, among the soldiers who fight in defence of their country and among the civilians who for over two years have seen their lives wiped out. He brings humanitarian aid where the missiles fall and from those places he helps with the evacuation of young people and adults - so far at least 500 people, but there are probably many more. These days the Salesian – who carries out his ministry in Dnipro and teaches History in a state school in the city – is in Rome to take part with two other priests and a dozen lay people from his country in the "Accompanying when Trauma Hits" course hosted by the Pontifical Salesian University in collaboration with the Faculty of Educational Sciences, with the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation and the Don Bosco Network. A project that aims to provide theoretical and methodological tools to deal with the traumas caused by war.

  • Latin America – Strengthening Vocational and Educational Commitment Today: 30 Years of the Salesian School in Latin America

(ANS) – Since the first meeting in Cumbayá (Ecuador), 30 years ago, educational processes on the continent have found a collaborative epicentre which has given rise to the Salesian School in (Latin) America  – ESA, in Spanish – as a forum for reflection and a common path. Many Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and other groups of the Salesian Family (SF) have enriched this synodal journey, focusing on young people and their integral development.  What are today's demands of us in the educational field? How are we building the Salesian School of the future? Can we further strengthen this great Salesian educational network in America? Some FMAs and Salesians who were at the first meeting in 1994, share their experience and their vision of how this journey has allowed a growth in the understanding of the youth reality, in the strategic decisions within the Provinces themselves and in the challenges that emerge for Salesian education.
