(ANS - Madrid) - On the occasion of the World Day of Childhood and Adolescence, which is celebrated next Friday, November 20, the entities that make up the National Coordination of Salesian Social Platforms are promoting the campaign #ApreseemosDeTi (Let's learn from you) to highlight the commendable behavior of children and adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic and protect their rights.
(ANS – Mumbai) – Children with learning disabilities have an 'invisible challenge'. The struggle to read, write and to perform arithmetic calculations are very real and their academic performance suffers. Misunderstood and taunted, these children often develop emotional problems. Parents and teachers are left in a dilemma whether these children genuinely have a difficulty or they are just playing up! Early identification and remedial help can help these struggling children to surmount the obstacles and even outperform their peers.
(ANS – Boddupalli) – This story needs to be said. It’s not a story of massive donations received and distributed to the needy during the pandemic. This is the true story of a different kind of “Widow’s Mite”. But a story which was long in the making. Four very young little heroes, school children who are members of our Human Rights Clubs.
Alcamo, Sicily - August 2020 - Last August 14 the experience of the Provincial Missionary Camp promoted by the Missionary Animation of Sicily and Tunisia began in Alcamo and ended on Sunday 23 August. A dozen young people between 18 and 26 years old, together with three other young Salesians, shared the experience of animating the children of the Maria Ausiliatrice Quarter, a small popular neighborhood in Alcamo. After the first three days of learning, fraternity and organizational and spiritual preparation of the group, from Monday 17 August these young people, together with the Salesians and other volunteers, took care of the children and, through them, of the respective families of this particular Alcamo area. From the very first days, the young participants in the camp realized that there are many riches hidden in these children, such as their joy, spontaneity, and the ability to trust the people who take care of them. Despite the initial mistrust, it was immediately clear that there was that "point accessible to good", highlighted by Don Bosco, with which the individual can be helped to become a good Christian and an upright citizen.
(ANS - Rambrai) - Sixty families in six villages in the Rambrai area, India, now have photovoltaic lighting thanks to donors from “Salesian Missions”, the Salesian Mission Office of New Rochelle, USA. Their rural houses had no electricity and the children could not do their homework and study in the evenings for exams. Mothers also had a hard time getting things done at home in the evenings. The project had an impact on around 360 young people.
Makululu, Zambia - August 2020 - Davis lives here, in the Makulu slums; he has lost his father and his mother is mentally ill. Until two years ago, he lived with his mother, was beaten, was not given food and could not go to school. He was looking for food and love on the street. Mumba also lost his father, his stepfather didn't want him at home. The boy lived on the street, begged for alms, looked for some work to eat something. Austin lived with his grandmother. Just like Davis he didn't go to school and was looking for food on the street. Now, all these young people have been taken under the care of the Salesians who, even in Zambia, are present alongside disadvantaged young people and offer them the necessary support and care.

Italy – A Salesian on the front line of the war in Ukraine: "Being close counts, words come later"
(ANS - Rome) - As he tells with a gentleness that does not seem to come from horror, he is "resting a little bit" in Rome these days. Fr Oleh Ladnyuk is a Ukrainian Salesian priest who is a military chaplain at the front, among the soldiers who fight in defence of their country and among the civilians who for over two years have seen their lives wiped out. He brings humanitarian aid where the missiles fall and from those places he helps with the evacuation of young people and adults - so far at least 500 people, but there are probably many more. These days the Salesian – who carries out his ministry in Dnipro and teaches History in a state school in the city – is in Rome to take part with two other priests and a dozen lay people from his country in the "Accompanying when Trauma Hits" course hosted by the Pontifical Salesian University in collaboration with the Faculty of Educational Sciences, with the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation and the Don Bosco Network. A project that aims to provide theoretical and methodological tools to deal with the traumas caused by war.

THE MESSAGE OF THE RECTOR MAJOR, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, SDB
Diary of a Happy and Blessed Missionary Day
Dear friends , I’m writing to you from Meruri in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. I write this greeting almost as if it were a journalistic report, because it has been only 24 hours since I arrived in the middle of this Brazilian state.
