Democratic Republic of the Congo - "EcoPo": a Salesian dream come true

01 March 2017

(ANS - Lubumbashi) - The Higher School of Administration and Economic Policy of Lubumbashi (EcoPo - Lubumbashi) is one of the educational works of the Salesians in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Opened on 4 October 2010, it is a scientific and professional centre of great value in the heart of the former province of Katanga. Its mission is to give its students a quality education in the field of administration of public and private organizations to bring them to quick and qualified integration in the labour world. For the Salesians, it is an original and innovative project, both in the landscape of Higher Education and universities in the DRC, and in the relationship with business companies.

The educational programme takes place within what is commonly known as the "Bologna Process". It offers degree courses, Master’s and PhD. This is a training proposal for students capable of following a challenging course and willing to train for the supervision and direction of public services, private companies, banks, etc.

In the academic year 2011-2012, the EcoPo - Lubumbashi was authorized to organize specialized undergraduate and master’ programmes in the field of Management of Organizations and since last September it has received final authorization to issue bonds in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Higher and University Education in the DRC.

The vision of the Salesians is to form a new ruling class in the Congo, able to meet the pressing demands of good administration that arise in different areas of the country.

Students of the EcoPo - Lubumbashi are offered privileged opportunities for study and work.  Admission requirements allow 10 students per teacher so that teachers can accompany and support students individually. They are moving towards a reduction in the number per class.

In addition, students have access to many opportunities: the library, Wi-Fi access, work practice, conferences and seminars.

Later this year, with the support of patrons and people of good will, the Salesians plan to build a modern campus, of a kind new to the DRC and West Africa. This will allow students to grow in a scientific environment equipped with all modern access to knowledge: a library, a centre for distance learning, places of study, recreation areas and entertainment venues.

Don Bosco dreamed big and his spiritual children in DRC also look far ahead.
