(ANS - Valencia) - The evolution of the cinema is one of the stories that people like to tell and to hear. The Lumière brothers were the big innovators that led to the capture, projection and copying of moving images. Today, the art of telling stories through images is alive and continues to be so in the training of young people in Salesian centres. Faithful to their charism, the Salesians of Valencia organized the "Cine Don Bosco" workshop run by young people and educators of the Salesian reception centre. They won first prize at the Valencia regional competition.

The "Cine Don Bosco" workshop won their first prize in the competition for a video titled "#Noemtoqueselwhatsapp", made by the Valencian Youth (IVAJ), on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on 25 November.

The awards ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of IVAJ, Jesús Martí, and the Director General of the “Institute for Women and Gender Equality", Maria Such, who presented the award to the winners, as well as the Vice-President of Generalitat Valenciana, Monica Oltra.

The aim of the competition "Noemtoqueselwhatsapp" was to transmit the values of civil society, education and respect in opposition to violent attitudes against women. The jury was composed of representatives from the Council for Equality and inclusive policies together with the Youth Council of Valencia and professionals in the photographic and audio-visual sector. They acknowledged the appropriateness of photos and videos to the theme of the contest, the artistic quality and the absence of scenes of violence.

The winners will enjoy a five-day stay in a hostel by IVAJ, with water activities as part of a programme entitled "Escoles a la mar".

The "Cine Don Bosco" workshop is an activity organized by "Casa Don Bosco of Valencia", in which young people from different projects of the "Angel Tomás" Foundation participate. Through the media, and particularly the cinema, they want to promote some basic principles for the development of young people, such as participation, cooperation, creativity and managing one’s emotions.
