Czech Republic - BOSCOPIX: Know Don Bosco, know yourself

24 November 2016

(ANS - Prague) – To mark 90 years of Salesian presence in the country, the Salesians of the Czech Republic have published a special edition of 86 images that tell the story of the life of Don Bosco and the history of the Salesians in their country and in the world. The images are printed on a set of playing cards called "BOSCOPIX".

by Anežka Hesová

The images, painted by Fr Martin Polacek, SDB, use symbolic language to express the richness of the spiritual heritage of Don Bosco and the many ideas  that connect Salesian history with the reality of our days. Boscopix also contains a book with the interpretation of the symbols, which helps to understand and contemplate the images.

There are four Boscopix games, some exclusively for children, others suitable for youth and adults. The games help develop the imagination and empathy, knowledge of the group and of themselves. They encourage people to communicate and to have fun.

In addition to the games, some pastoral and educational activities are suggested to get to know Don Bosco's life from new perspectives and to understand Salesian spirituality.

Boscopix was welcomed with great enthusiasm not only in the Czech Republic but also in Slovakia, since the book with the description of the images (essential to understand the significance of Boscopix) is available in the languages of both countries.

"It was a very challenging project, but I'm happy to see the result,” said the author of the images.  “I hope Boscopix will become a tool to help people to know and love Don Bosco and through him also God.”

Boscopix has already won over many fans, and is rapidly spreading in the oratories and youth centres and in the communities of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
