Italy - A Formation Course to meet the biggest challenge: the family

23 August 2016

(ANS - Capaccio Paestum) - About 220 people took part in the twelfth Formation Course for Family Animators organized by the “Cerchi d’Onda” at the Sanctuary of Gethsemane, in Capaccio Paestum, near Salerno, from 18 to 24 August. The course focuses on the family. It includes four lectures and five workshops presented by teachers, family counsellors and psychotherapists. Some members of the Salesian Family and the Association of Salesian Cooperators were among the organizers.

At the centre of the course are the five verbs discussed during the Fifth National Ecclesial Convention of Florence 2015 which in turn were taken from Evangelii Gaudium by Pope Francis. They are: to go out, live, announce, educate and transform, each to be understood in the context of family ministry. There were twenty speakers and a team of teachers for young people from 2 years old up to university. Older youth will have an experience of service at Eboli in a "type B" social cooperative, that is, a team made up of people who are socially vulnerable.

The work started with the presentation of the encyclical "Amoris Laetitia" of Pope Francis by Fr Mario Oscar Llanos, SDB, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Education at the Salesian Pontifical University.

According to Fr Llanos, "The course was started and has developed to respond to the needs of many families through a programme of discernment and training: one couple can reach out to other couples and can be of help in time of trouble. The Formation Course for Family Animators offers training to those who dedicate themselves to other families, creating a mutual support network."

The course can count on the support of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Vallo della Lucania as well as the Region of Campania, the Province of Salerno, the Salesian Pontifical University. the Forum of Family Associations and the Association of Salesian Cooperators.
